Michael John (M.J.) Derricott
Out of the many Hollywood hairstylists in Los Angeles, there is really no one like Michael John (MJ) Derricott, who is dedicating his life to the organization he founded in 2012 - Makeovers That Matter.
MJ is no stranger to the idea of “giving back”; his history is rich with volunteerism and philanthropy. It was while spending his Tuesdays styling hair for residents of Gettlove, an organization that provides permanent supportive housing to the homeless in Hollywood, that MJ first conceived the idea for the non-profit organization Makeovers That Matter. He realized that many of the women he assisted were female veterans who had served to protect our country, and he became dedicated to helping these women, along with wives and caretakers of veterans, re-enter the civilian workforce.
“Helping these women feel better about themselves was such an amazing and fulfilling experience,” says MJ. “It really inspired me to try and take it just a little bit further.”
Derricott, a stylist for over 20 years, has worked in prestigious salons such as RA_ Bar Beauty, Umberto’s of Beverly Hills, B2V, and Nick Chavez, QVC personality. As a stylist to Hollywood’s “A List”, he has been the go-to guy for The Oscars Ceremony. He is known for his appearances on E! Style Network’s “How Do I Look?” and is currently a regular on The Hallmark Channel’s “Home and Family” representing Makeovers That Matter and speaking on the value of The Mindset Program and the organization’s makeovers – much more meaningful topics than just discussing hair styles and beauty products.
Derricott is the owner of MJ Hair Salon inside of RA_ Bar Beauty in West Hollywood, where his mixed breed dog Maxi is often at his side.
